A UPI payment begins when the payer selects the option to send money and enters the recipient’s VPA. The application validates the payment address through the UPI system and may display the beneficiary information connected with it. The payer can then review the recipient details before proceeding.
The payer does not need the beneficiary’s account number or IFSC code. The VPA is already mapped to an eligible account within the UPI system, allowing the payment instructions to reach the account associated with that address. The banking information remains behind the payment identifier instead of being entered for every transfer.
After entering the amount, the payer confirms the transaction using the UPI PIN linked to the account being debited. The PIN serves as the authorization credential for the transaction. A person receiving an ordinary UPI payment does not need to enter a UPI PIN merely to receive the funds.
